The Sweet Flavor of Success

Well I think that the freaking out part of this process has finally finish. I use all the help I could get and I have to say that the writing center was a wonderful tool. I definitely like better the email option versus the going to the center one.  They were very meticulous about all the things I could do to fix my essay.

I was very frustrated with the fact that I wasn’t able to analyze more on my essay. I had to work on my thesis also because it wasn’t very strong. But I am glad that after a lot of hard work I am done with this paper. So, now I just going to wait hopefully for an A on my paper so I can really relax. I have to say that I am ready for this summer vacation.

Also I will like to thank all of the kind classmates that cheer me up during these weeks of frustration you really make me smile.

I really going to miss this class, thank you all!

Instructor Review

After listening to the comments of Professor Stacy about my essay, I have to say that I am very frustrated. I know she is right, she knows better than me what a good essay is. But I really don’t have any idea of how to fix it. She asks me to write a stronger thesis and to put more analysis in my sentences. Today I am going to email the writing center for help. I am going to use the email option for the first time because their schedule is not compatible with my working hours. I am very concern about my grade in this essay and I don’t know what to do. I hope at that at the end I would be able to have a great essay and a good grade.

Essay Three: 3:10 To Yuma

I decided to use the movie 3:10 to Yuma for my essay number three. I am not really sure about it, because I really don’t know yet if I will have enough information about how the movie relates to the West theme, so I don’t know if I will change it later. But for now 3:10 to Yuma (2007) is movie about a rancher Dan Evans that while trying to clear up issues about the sale of his land he witnesses a stagecoach robbery led by and outlaw named Ben Wade.  Then after Wade is captured by the law, Evans decides to be one of the escorts who will take Wade to the 3:10 to Yuma train for a reward of $200. Evan’s effort to take Wade to the station is in part an effort to save his land, so the $ 200 reward will be enough to save his land and give a better life to his family. During their journey, Ben gets closer to Dan while his gang of criminals follows the group to rescue their boss.

At the journey Dan discovers that his son William is following them, Evans tries to pressure William to return back to the ranch, but William decides to stay with them. While taking a shortcut through a canyon, the group is attacked by Apache warrior Indians. Evans tries to kill them, but he is badly wounded. Wade saves him, arms himself, and kills the remaining attackers.

Meanwhile the gang doubles back to find Wade. Eventually the two men (Dan and Ben) end up in a room in the Contention hotel, overlooking the street, surrounded outside by armed men who want to rescue Ben or kill him. Then Dan starts going through the town shooting everyone in sight and dodging as many bullets as he can. At the end Dan and Ben began to trust each other and Ben knowing that he had escape of Yuma prison before, decides to help Dan by willingly getting in the train to go to prison.  When they finally get to the train, Ben’s friends shoot Dan in front of son.  William grabs Dan’s gun and points it at Ben, but he can’t bring himself to kill him (after all, it wasn’t really Ben’s fault that Dan died). As William goes to mourn his father’s death, Ben boards the 3:10 to Yuma and heads to prison. As the train leaves, Ben whistles to his horse who runs after the train…meaning that Ben will escape.

Revision Process

The last two weeks of this revision process have been very interesting.  I had to make a lot of changes in my essay. There was a lot to add to the conclusion of my paper. I felt that the conclusion needed it something that makes the reader think about what I wrote. I worked very hard to make this paper the best. I believe that my essay should get an A. The reason why, is because the research I did for this paper was very extensive. I also put a lot of work on the grammar and revision process. I am very happy with this paper and I hope I get and A.

Good Luck to all my classmates with their papers.

Peer Review Process for Essay two

After posting my essay in the discussion board I am very thankful for the nice comments about my paper. I just hope that all those wonderful comments are true and my paper is a work of art. LOL!

I did have some suggestion about thing that I need to fix. One comment that I got is about the works cited page, it was from Tracy Stinson, and it was very useful because she let me know that I need to put the title of the books in Italics, so I was able to fix that. Also Christine Salleng told me that some of my paragraphs are a little short, and today I am working on that as well. Then Kiah Brown suggests that I need to use more transition words because in some parts of my paper it gets a little confusing.

I will like to thank a lot to all of my classmates for all the great suggestions, they were a big help. I am working on a lot of things for this paper and also I am taking my paper to the writing center next Monday. This has been a great experience and a big help.

Good luck to every one!!

Research about the Mexican-American War

Doing the research for this essay has been an interesting experience. All the history about the different wars that allow United States to get the Mexican lands is incredible. It´s was amazing all the tactics and circumstances that both countries had at that time. I love the fact that I was able to have of the all the history and facts very clear, so I could picture in my mind all the details.  Also all my sources were very easy to find because of the good tools and l information the Professor Stacy provided.

I am very excited about this paper and I am looking forward to see the final result.

My Topic and Five Non-Web Secondary Sources

The topic that I choose to talk about is the Mexican-American war and how unfair-unjust was the position of United States when they took a big part of Mexico’s land at a time where Mexico was very unstable. I will persuade the reader that United States was taking advantage of a weaker nation to acquire that territory.

The non-web sources that I choose are:

A-   E Book: Short, Offhand, Killing Affair: Soldiers and Social Conflict during the Mexican-American War.

–       This book talks about the experience of the American soldiers during the war, describing some of the injustices committed on different battles. Also talks about how some of the soldiers did not agree with the killings in Mexican land. In addition it talks about how significant the territorial gains of the United States where and all the social and political divisions that these caused. At the time America adopted an aggressive expansion policy that often ignored many inferior countries.

B-   Article: Border Crossings in the Mexican American War.

–       The reason why I choose this book is because it explains how the Mexican-American War was developed, so it talks about why it happens and how, with all the different reasons that help in the war. It also mentions the Manifest Destiny and explains that is a paper that makes Americans believed they had a divine right to bring their culture among others, because they were superior.

C-   Article: The American Invasion of New Mexico and Mexican Merchants

–       This great article talks about the U.S. invasion of Mexico in the Mexican merchant’s of New Mexico point of view and how all of them supported Mexico during the war.

D-  E Book: Manifest Destinies: The Making of the Mexican American Race.

–       This book describes the U.S. colonization of the Northern Mexico and the creation of the Mexican Americans. Also it is a description of all the different circumstances at the time when the war started. In the other hand talks about how United Stated was concern regarding the people’s living in the land and what kind of rights they would have over their properties and if they were going to be obligated to move out of their own land.

E-   E Book:  Habits of Empire: A History of American Expansionism.

–       This book talks about how throughout history United States always works towards expanding territory as their number one priority. I choose this book because it gives an incredible detail of all process of acquisition of Mexican land. Also it talks about how United States always divided the land to his favor.

F-   Article: Mexico’s Vision of Manifest Destiny during the 1847 War.

These are all the sources that I have for now. After all of these reading I think that some of them are very good and other I am really not sure if I will use them at the end. I really like the topic that I choose for this essay and I hope I can find all the right information that make this essay a master piece.
